PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – In pole position to lead the Steelers offense all offseason, quarterback Russell Wilson has yet to play a snap. While he said he is gaining ground and able to more work on Thursday than recently. Will it be too late?

As least for turning a pole position into a checkered flag and becoming the Steelers starting quarterback?

“I’m just focused on me every day, just focused on me being fully healthy,” Wilson said Thursday. “I have full confidence in our football team and that’s really what matters to me.”

You would have to wonder what Mike Tomlin’s position would be if the offense does improve and the Steelers move to 3-0?

Wilson can do nothing more than stay the course right now. He said he is doing everything he can, but he’s not just ready yet. The 35-year-old said he’s following the plan.

“We are just trying to be smart and listen to the doctors and make sure I’m ready to go fully and get back out there soon,” Wilson said.

The reality is he’s thrown two passes with his Steelers teammates in a game setting. It was the final preseason game against the Lions. Fields got most of the first-team reps with the starters during team drills for a couple of weeks in training camp. This is obviously different, it’s game reps. There is a bond that builds between the quarterback and they are not bonding with Wilson.

“I think Justin does everything well,” Wilson said. “He’s a talented athlete. He’s a guy who is smart, works hard. We spend a lot of time together. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help him and us win these games. It’s about the team and us winning right now, finding ways to win.”

They are finding ways to win so far without Russell Wilson. If that continues, why would the Steelers make a change?
