The Philadelphia Eagles are acquiring wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a fifth round pick from the Washington Commanders for a 2025 third round pick and two future seventh round picks, the Eagles announced .

"On the surface it feels like the Eagles might be stealing a player that still has upside," Joe Giglio said reacting to the trade on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show. "I kind of find it bizarre they are giving up this quickly on him. It's not like he's been a Jalen Reagor disaster, he was a first round pick, and they don't exactly have three star receivers in Washington."

Dotson, 24, is entering his third NFL season. A Newark, NJ native, Dotson was the 16th overall pick in 2022 out of Penn State.

Dotson recorded a combined 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons with the Commanders.

The Eagles add much needed depth at the wide receiver position behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Philadelphia signed veteran Parris Campbell and drafted Johnny Wilson in the sixth round.

Here are Eliot Shorr-Parks' thoughts on the trade:

—Great trade. The Eagles needed a WR and Dotson checks pretty much every box — good combination of proven while also young.

—In two years Dotson has 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 TDs

—11 TDs in two years playing with bad Washington QBs is pretty impressive

—Dotson being only 24 makes trading a 3rd-round pick acceptable. If they went the veteran route than trading a pretty decent asset (3rd) would have been debatable. But for a young player at a position of need it’s a shot worth taking for sure.

—Contractually the Eagles have Dotson for at least two-more years. He has a $1.5m cap hit this year and $2.7 next year. Obviously very cheap.

—Dotson will bring speed to the 3rd WR spot, which is something they needed
