Ike 'discouraged' by Hurts' decision making: 'Should concern everyone'

Ike Reese, who is almost positive when it comes to his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, is not letting Jalen Hurts off of the hook for his poor decision making in Friday's Week 1 win over the Packers.

"Offensively, the obvious thing, the obvious thing," Reese said on Monday's 94WIP Afternoon Show with Spike Eskin and Jack Fritz. "It's Jalen's decision making on Friday. Now, I'm not going to sit here and overreact with the turnovers and say this is what's it is going to be the rest of the year. But I'm also not going to be blind to what his biggest issue was last year, where he regressed in this area as a quarterback. We've heard that he had a great training camp, he's had a great offseason, he's making great decisions with the football, he didn't throw an interception until the last day of training camp.

"In practice, a controlled environment where you're not taking risk with the football. Well you get in a game and the first time you seem to be under the gun—like he put so much pressure on himself and that offense to come out and score on the opening drive, that's what you do? You throw into triple coverage late over the middle of the field . For what? Why? That is discouraging to me and the Eagles need to get that under control. Everybody will say, 'Ah first game, no preseason,' all this other nonsense to make excuses so we can feel better about ourselves. But if this is what it's going to be, we're never going to realize the potential of this offense or this team. If you're quarterback is going to turn the ball over you're going to always fall short in the end.

"And Jalen, only he can change the narrative around him making bad decisions...Got to get that cleaned up. I know we want to feel good about everything. That should concern everybody right there."

Hurts had an up and down game, completing 20 of 34 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns, but also throwing two ugly interceptions and accounting for a lost fumble on a bad snap from new center Cam Jurgens in the first quarter.

Ultimately, Hurts was able to put together an incredible game-clinching drive in the fourth quarter to seal the win. And on the ground, he ran 13 times for 33 yards, including a big eight-yard rush late in the fourth quarter.

You need to simplify the offense, because he can't handle a lot to reeds.
