New Ban Makes These Illegal in New York
Starting September 1st, 2024 if you are caught with one of these in New York you can expect to pay a fine of up to $500. Over the last year or so New York officials have begun a major crackdown targeting drivers who attempt to invade tolls on bridges, tunnels, and toll roads by covering, disguising, or altering their license plates. The Rome Capitol Theater is putting on an awesome event to commemorate a classic and to relive the story of the devastating EF-2 tornado that ripped through parts of the city. One of the most iconic films in American movie history is "The Wizard of Oz." Of course the mechanism for Dorothy traveling to the Land of Oz is during a tornado touch down on her family farm in Kansas. Well, the Rome Capitol is showing the iconic film in the aftermath of the devastating Rome tornado and will premiere a mini-documentary telling the tale of the fateful date in July.
Clutch and Rival Sons Launch Tour: Set Lists and Video
Clutch and Rival Sons brought a prime selection of heavy rock to New York on Thursday as they began their Two Headed Beast co-headlining tour. Both bands are celebrating the anniversaries of key albums. Rival Sons turned in an energetic set that covered a lot of their catalog, including six songs from 2014's Great Western Valkyrie, including "Good Luck" for the first time since 2018. Clutch subsequently performed the bulk of 2004's Blast Tyrant, honoring its 20th anniversary, while also mixing in additional cuts from their catalog. Set highlights included three songs from 1993's Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes and Undeniable Truths, which marked its 30th anniversary last year and was the major label debut for the Maryland group.
West Utica Community Rallying Together to Pay for Funeral of Murdered Resident
Members of the West Utica community and beyond are rallying together to remember and assist family members of a man who was taken far too soon. Utica Police responded to a shooting incident on Sunset Avenue during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 17th, 2024. When they arrived, they found a 75-year-old male victim suffering from a stray gunshot wound that was not intended for him. Though it seemed initially he would survive the wounds, he later succumbed to his injuries at Wynn Hospital. That man was Paul Newman, a beloved individual in the community.

Sergio Mendes, Brazilian Jazz Legend, Dead at 83
Sergio Mendes, the influential Brazilian jazz musician known for bringing bossa nova to worldwide audiences, has died at the age of 83. In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, the musician’s family said he died “peacefully.” No official cause of death was given, but the family noted he “had been challenged by the effects of long term COVID.”
