AL Pennant Odds: Interest in Tigers Skyrockets at BetMGM

Entering their game against the Colorado Rockies on Sept. 10, the Detroit Tigers had won 18 of their last 26 games but were still three games back of the third wild-card spot and buried in BetMGM’s AL pennant odds at +20000.

And after a strong public interest entering the season and through the opening weeks — the Tigers entered May with 11.1% of the tickets (third most) and 14.4% of the handle (second most)— Detroit had just 7.2% of the tickets (fifth) and 7.6% of the handle (sixth).

As the Tigers stayed hot with nine wins in the next 12 games through Sunday, both the oddsmakers and public took notice.

Entering Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Tigers are +2000 to win the pennant and have 10.3% of the tickets (fourth) and 10% of the handle (third). Only the Baltimore Orioles (21%) and Yankees (17%) have more handle.

World Series betting interest has increased, too. While moving from +50000 on Sept. 10 to +4000 this week, Detroit’s ticket and handle shares climbed from 1.7% (19th) and 1.2% (21st) to 2.5% (15th) and 1.8% (16th).
