Padres split Korea series with Dodgers

The Padres split their 2-game series in Korea with the Dodgers with a 15-11 win on Thursday morning. The Padres bounced back after blowing an 8th inning lead on Wednesday morning to erupt for 5 runs in the 1st inning. It looked like the Padres may run away with the second game after tacking on 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd to make it a 9-2 game. But LA responded with 4 runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame.

Things got dicey late with the Dodgers pulling to within a run after rallying for 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to make it a 12-11 game. But Manny Machado put the game away for good with a mammoth 3-run homer in the 9th to give the Padres a 4-run cushion. The top 4 in the lineup, Bogaerts, Tatis, Cronenworth and Machado, combined to go 9-17 with 10 RBIs, Jackson Merrill notched his first career hit, and Robert Suarez earned a 4-out save, his first of the season. The Padres will return home for two exhibition games at Petco Park against the Mariners on Monday and Tuesday before their home opener against the Giants next Thursday.
