The Padres kicked off their home schedule in front of a raucous crowd, and didn't disappoint. Facing the team's former manager in Bob Melvin, Yu Darvish was in midseason form, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven in five innings of work. After falling behind 1-0, the Padres took the lead in the bottom of the 5th on a Jurickson Profar RBI single and an RBI-groundout by Tyler Wade.

The Giants tried to ruin San Diego's day, taking the lead back in the top of the 7th, scoring two runs off of Jhony Brito. But the Padres responded immediately, rallying for 4 runs in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by a 2-run double from Jake Cronenworth after Xander Bogaerts broke the tie with an RBI-single. Robert Suarez entered the 9th inning with a 3-run lead and gave up a home run in the 9th, but that was all he gave up en route to his second save of the season, as the Padres improved to 2-1.
