Padres avoid sweep with 3-2 win over Cardinals

The Padres avoided being swept by the Cardinals by doing something that gave them fits in 2023: winning a one-run game. Joe Musgrove bounced back from his first two poor starts to deliver a quality start, allowing just one run in six innings while striking out seven, including a huge strikeout against Nolan Arenado with 2 men on and 2 outs in the 6th.

Kyle Higashioka had a massive impact on the win as well, as he threw out two base stealers in the top of the 4th inning and then hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 4th. The Padres had another bright spot in this game as well, when closer Robert Suarez entered the game in the 8th inning and got the final 5 outs of the game to secure his 3rd save of the season. The Padres have a quick 3-game road trip in San Francisco beginning on Friday before returning home for 3 games against the Cubs.
