Padres lose a heartbreaker to Giants

The Padres lost a heartbreaker to the Giants on Sunday, losing 3-2 and dropping the series 2 games to 1. Matt Waldron pitched well, allowing just 1 unearned run through 5.1 innings. The Padres carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning, when Jhony Brito entered the game with 1 out after the Giants pinch-hit with a righty to face lefty Yuki Matsui. Brito gave up back to back singles to pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores and then Jorge Soler. Michael Conforto would then ground to first baseman Jake Cronenworth with runners on the corners and one out. Cronenworth stepped on first base for an out and threw it to second base, where Ha-Seong Kim had the ball knocked out of his glove while attempting to apply a tag for what would have been the 3rd out of the inning, allowing the game-tying run to score. Matt Chapman then drove in the go-ahead run, and Camilo Doval struck out the side in the 9th inning to end the game. The Padres will now return home for a 3-game series against the Cubs.
