The Padres won a massive game in L.A. on Friday night, beating the Dodgers 8-7 in 11 innings thanks to some late inning heroics. The Padres jumped out to an early 3-1 lead thanks to home runs from Manny Machado and Ha-Seong Kim, but fell behind after Mookie Betts' 2-out 3-run home run following an error by Xander Bogaerts that should have ended the inning. Bogaerts would drive in a run on a groundout in the 7th to make it a 7-5 deficit, bollowed by a 2-run homer from Fernando Tatis Jr. to tie the game at 7 apiece. Neither team would score again until the 11th inning, when rookie Jackson Merrill went the opposite way to drive in Jose Azocar for the go-ahead run. Robert Suarez had been called upon to get the final out in the 10th inning, and pitched a perfect 11th, getting Mookie Betts to pop out with the tying run on third base to end the game with Shohei Ohtani waiting on deck. Matt Waldron will face off against Gavin Stone on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
