Padres lose 1-0 heartbreaker

The Padres lost a heartbreaker to the Brewers 1-0 on Wednesday, missing out on the series sweep and not capitalizing on a dazzling performance from Michael King. King carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but lost it on a single by Willy Adames after retiring the first two hitters. San Diego failed to drive in runners from 3rd base in both the 7th and 8th innings, after Jackson Merrill hit a 2-out triple in the 7th and Matthew Batten hit a leadoff triple in the 8th. Following Batten's triple, Kyle Higashioka popped out to second base, Xander Bogaerts struck out swinging, and Fernando Tatis' was thrown out on a slow-roller past the pitcher's mound on a terrific throw by Abner Uribe. Michael King came back out to pitch the 8th, and retired two of the first three batters he faced, but was lifted for Wandy Peralta with two outs and a runner on second. Blake Perkins would drive in Brice Turang for the game's only run. The Padres return home to face the Blue Jays on Friday.
