The Padres were shutout at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday by second-year starter Andrew Abbott, who tossed 7 shutout innings. The Padres only tallied 5 hits and drew 2 bases on balls. Joe Musgrove made his return from the IL, and was on a pitch count. The Reds scored both of their runs in the 2nd inning, and were unearned. Musgrove made a bad throw on a pickoff move to second base with runners on 1st and 2nd, allowing Jonathan India to advance to 3rd base. Jacob Hurtubise then hit a sac-fly to shallow left field, and Jurickson Profar's throw to the plate beat India by a step or two, but India's slide knocked the ball out of Luis Campusano's glove, allowing him to score while Campusano was charged with an error. Elly De La Cruz then drove in Will Benson with a double, and the Reds would score the only two runs of the game. Michael King will start for the Padres on Wednesday.
