The Padres nearly completed their first sweep of the season, but couldn't lock down the final 3 outs of the game on a day when their top relievers were unavailable. Michael King was terrific, allowing just 1 run over 7 innings on a day when the Padres desperately needed their starter to pitch deep into the game, as Robert Suarez, Jeremiah Estrada and Wandy Peralta had all pitched the previous two games and were unavailable for this one. With the score tied at 1 in the 8th inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each delivered RBI-singles to put the Friars up 3-1. Enyel De Los Santos pitched a scoreless 8th inning, leaving the 9th inning for Yuki Matsui. Vinnie Pasquantino led off the inning with a single, and Salvador Perez followed with a walk. With 2 on and no outs, Nelson Velazquez, hit a 2-run triple to tie the game. Nick Loftin drove in Velazquez with a walk-off sac-fly, and the Royals were able to avoid being swept. Luis Arraez exited the game with an injury in the 6th inning, and Mike Shildt said after the game that he jammed his shoulder but things don't look overly serious.
