Padres swept by Angels

The Angels defeated the Padres 3-2 on Wednesday night to complete a 3-game sweep in Anaheim. The Padres began the game with Luis Arraez running into an out on the basepaths to thwart a potential rally, which was a theme of the series. Dylan Cease gave up a leadoff home run in the 1st to Nolan Schanuel, and a 2-run homer to Zack Neto in the 2nd inning to put the Padres in an early 3-0 hole. The Padres rallied for 2 runs in the 6th inning, but left Donovan Solano stranded at 2nd inning. With their closer unavailable, the Angels turned to Matt Moore in the 9th, who locked down his first save of the season. In addition to the loss on the field, Manny Machado exited the game after running down to first base to beat out a double play, with what Mike Shildt called a minor strain to his hip flexor after the game. The Padres will return home for a series with the Diamondbacks beginning on Thursday.
