The Padres lost 4-3 to the Diamondbacks on Thursday night, which was their 5th consecutive loss. Randy Vasquez gave up an RBI-double in the 1st inning and two solo homers in the 2nd inning to put the Padres in a 3-0 hole, but then settled down and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings after that. The Padres suffered another baserunning blunder, with Fernando Tatis Jr. being picked off at 2nd base after breaking too early to try and steal 3rd base with just 1 out in the inning. Kyle Higashioka's solo home run in the 5th inning put the Padres on the board, and then Jake Cronenworth tied the game with a 2-run double. Corbin Carroll lined a 2-out double off the wall in the 7th inning and then came around to score on Ketel Marte's single and a fielding error by Jurickson Profar in left field. The Padres got the game-tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the 9th, but left him stranded when Jake Cronenworth struck out on a called strike 3 that was several inches off the plate. Unfortunately, what did the Padres in was going 1-14 with runners in scoring position and stranding 10 runners on base. These two teams will meet up again on Friday night at 6:40.
