Padres sweep A's thanks to Merrill's walk-off homer

The Padres earned their first sweep of the year with a 5-4 win over the A's on Wednesday. Michael King was fantastic, striking out 12 over 5+ innings while allowing just 2 runs. But the stories of the game were Donovan Solano and Jackson Merrill, who each hit two home runs. They each hit solo homers, one in the 2nd inning and the other in the 5th to put the Padres up 2-0. The A's rallied for 3 runs in the 6th inning off of King and Wandy Peralta, then added an insurance run in the top of the 8th. With the Padres trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning, Solano hit a 2-run game-tying home run. After a scoreless top of the 9th from Robert Suarez, Jackson Merrill walked it off with a no-doubt-about-it blast. The Padres improved to 37-35 with the win, and will have a happy flight to New York, where they'll enjoy a day off before taking on the Mets beginning on Friday.
