The Padres won one of the wildest games of the year on Friday night, defeating the Diamondbacks 10-8. Randy Vasquez gave up a 2-run homer to Joc Pederson in the 1st inning, but rebounded nicely to finish up with just those 2 runs allowed over 6.1 innings. The Padres built a 7-2 lead heading into the 9th inning, highlighted by a 2-run triple from Jackson Merrill in the 4th inning and a 3-run home run from Kyle Higashioka in the 6th. With a 5-run lead in the 9th, Enyel De Los Santos loaded the bases with just 1 out, causing Mike Shildt to bring in closer Robert Suarez for what had become a save situation despite having pitched 2.1 innings over the previous two nights.

The likely NL All-Star served up a grand slam to the first batter he faced, Alek Thomas, to make it a 7-6 game. After getting Geraldo Perdomo to ground out, Corbin Carroll legged out a hustle double to put the tying run in scoring position. With 2 strikes and 2 outs, pinch-hitter Randal Grichuk hit a go-ahead 2-run homer to give the D'Backs an 8-7 lead.

Jurickson Profar's magical season continued, blasting a game-tying solo homer off of Arizona closer Paul Sewald in the bottom of the 9th. After Jake Cronenworth drew a walk to put the go-ahead run on base, Manny Machado blasted a 2-run walk-off homer in front of the largest crowd in Petco Park history.
