King flirts with no-hitter as Padres win 2 of 3 in Cleveland

The Padres defeated the Guardians 2-1 on Sunday behind an impressive effort from Michael King, who carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning. Angel Martinez broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the 7th, and advanced to 3rd base on Jose Ramirez's single. Ramirez was thrown out at 2nd base trying to stretch his single into a double. King then allowed his only run on a groundout to second base, and escaped an inning with only 1 run allowed when the Guardians had a chance to tie the game at 2. Kyle Higashioka's 2-run double in the 2nd inning provided all of the scoring the Padres would get in the rubber match, and Robert Suarez notched his sixth save of 4 or more outs this season to secure the win. The Padres will have the day off on Monday before facing the Nationals in Washington on Tuesday.
