Padres go 7-2 on road trip

The Padres narrowly missed out on a sweep of the 1st place Orioles, dropping Sunday's series finale 8-6. Randy Vasquez struggled, yielding 6 earned runs in 2 innings of work, and putting the Padres in a 6-0 hole. The Padres did what they've done all year, and clawed their way back into the game. Xander Bogaerts' exceptional play since returning from the IL continued, and he drew the Padres to within a run with his 2-run homer in the 6th inning. But that would be as close as the Padres would get, as the Orioles added 2 insurance runs in the 8th, and held on for an 8-6 win. Alek Jacob made his season debut for the Padres, and struck out 4 hitters over 2 scoreless frames. The Padres will enjoy a day off on Monday before welcoming the Dodgers to Petco Park.
