The Padres' relentlessness continued in Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. The Marlins scored 5 runs (2 earned) off of Dylan Cease in the first two innings, putting the Padres in a 5-0 hole. But as has been the case since the All-Star break, no lead is safe against these Padres. San Diego rallied for 4 unananswered runs, before Jesus Sanchez hit a 2-run homer off of Yuki Matsui in the 7th inning to extend the lead to 7-4. Donovan Solano pinch-hit for Jake Cronenworth in the 8th inning against lefty Andrew Nardi, and blasted a 2-run homer to make it a 7-6 game. Trailing by a run in the 9th inning and down to their final out, Ha-Seong Kim hit a ball that hit the top of the left field wall before Kyle Stowers uninententionally knocked the ball over the fence without touching the ground for what appeared to be the game-tying home run. But upon review, the call was overturned and called a ground-rule double, taking the tying run off the board and putting Kim at 2nd base. George Soriano was brought in to face Luis Campusano, who he struck out to end the game. It was still a very successful road trip for the Padres, who went 5-1 against Pittsburgh and Miami and improved to 66-53. They'll now return home to face the Pirates at Petco Park on Monday, when Joe Musgrove will make his return from the IL.
