The Padres lost a tough game to the Rockies on Monday 5-4. After falling behind 1-0 in the 2nd inning, Xander Bogaerts tied the game in the bottom half of the frame with a solo home run, his second in as many games. But the Rockies scored four more runs in the top of the 4th inning off of Randy Vasquez, seemingly blowing the game wide open. Jurickson Profar's torrid start to the season continued, as he blasted a 2-run homer in the 6th to make it a 5-3 game. Jackson Merrill crushed a leadoff solo shot in the 7th to bring the Padres to within a run.

After Merrill's home run is when things got very interesting for the Padres. Luis Campusano and Ha-Seong Kim drew consecutive walks to put two men on with no outs, only to have Luis Arraez ground into a double play followed by Fernando Tatis Jr. grounding out on the first pitch to end the inning. Justin Lawrence then walked the bases loaded with 2 outs in the 8th inning only to see Luis Campusano line out to center field. Then in the 9th inning, closer Jalen Beeks walked the bases loaded with one out, and Manny Machado grounded into a game-ending double play on the first pitch he saw. All in all, the Padres drew 8 walks and loaded the bases twice while trailing by just a run after Merrill's leadoff homer in the 7th inning, but were not able to bring anyone home to tie the game or take the lead. Dylan Cease will start on Tuesday for the Padres.
