The Padres dropped a tough game to the Mets 2-1 on Friday evening in a rainy game that began in a delay. Matt Waldron was fantastic, surrendering just 2-runs over 7 innings on a JD Martinez double in the 3rd inning. Jackson Merrill blasted a solo homer in the 5th inning, his 3rd in 2 games. With Mets leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Jurickson Profar delivered a leadoff single. Jose Azocar pinch-ran for him, and promptly stole 2nd base, putting him in scoring position with no outs. Manny Machado struck out looking, followed by a groundout by Donovan Solano that nearly made it past a diving Jeff McNeil, which would've allowed Azocar to score, but McNeil snagged the ball and threw Solano out at 1st. With the tying-run at 3rd base and two outs, Jake Cronenworth struck out swinging with a full count to end the game. First pitch of game 2 is scheduled for 1:10 on Saturday.
