T he Black quarterback is no longer a unicorn in the NFL. Seeing a Black man under center leading the offense has become quite normal now, but it always wasn’t like that, and now, a new documentary will highlight the rise of Black quarterbacks in the NFL.

The first trailer for Evolution of The Black Quarterback , the Prime Video docuseries from one of the greatest Black quarterbacks to ever hit the field, Michael Vick, has arrived.

The SMAC-produced doc will follow Vick as he travels across the country to explore the history of the Black quarterback and the impact they have made on and off the field.

According to a press release, the three-part document “pays homage to the rich history, celebrates the progress, and sets its sights on the future of the quarterback position.”

The doc will be full of highlights from the most influential Black QBs—past, present, and future— including Patrick Mahomes , Jalen Hurts , Cam Newton , Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, Donovan McNabb, James “Shack” Harris, Warren Moon, and Doug Williams.

The docuseries will also feature commentary from celebrities like Common , Larry Wilmore, and Jamie Foxx and other NFL alumni like Deion Sanders, Steve Young, and Josh Allen.

Evolution of the Black Quarterback is directed by SMAC’s Fred Anthony Smith and produced by SMAC Productions in association with NFL Films. Michael Strahan, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Fred Anthony Smith of SMAC Entertainment serve as executive producers.

The doc premieres on Prime Video on September 24. You can step into the trailer below.
