It’s not anyone’s business what someone else does in their own home. That issue has come up in a local situation in which a woman says her ex-boyfriend stole her passwords to hack the camera in her home after she and he broke up. The Lafayette Police Department is investigating the case of Ebony Menard as a suspicious circumstance according to KLFY.

Menard says the video was edited and then put online. She says the viral video was edited in an unflattering manner,

The way they edited the videos to make it look like I had men coming in and out of my house back to back as if I was some type of sex worker; they were labeling me as a sex worker.

The video has gone viral, and it’s brought nothing but complete chaos to her life. Lafayette Police are currently investigating the case to see what happened.

    What Happened With This Case?

The video was shared last weekend online, and since that time, Menard says people have been sharing it and speculating about what was happening in the video. She says the speculation is all lies.

When contacted by Channel 10 the man who has been accused of stealing and posting the video he said the allegations are not true, and he had nothing else to say.

She says after the video continued to be circulated online, she went to the Lafayette Police Department where she was advised to file an order of protection which she has done. She says the ex-boyfriend has been dodging the process server who needs to serve him with the papers.

Again, the ex-boyfriend says the allegations are false.

    What Motivated This Situation?

Menard says she believes her boyfriend is retaliating against her because she broke up with him. She says,

He sees that I moved on with my life. I’m great. I’m happy. Me and my son are thriving, and I think that’s what he doesn’t like. So he’s just trying to hurt me in any kind of way.

Again, the ex-boyfriend says the allegations are false.

We will continue to stick to the story.

When reading the comments posted on some social media about “why this story is news”, we requested and received this statement from the Executive Director of Faith House, Billi LaCombe:

    Statement from Faith House

We are deeply concerned by the recent incident involving the unauthorized use of surveillance footage that was later distributed online without consent. This act, which appears to be a form of cyberstalking and defamation, is a serious violation of privacy and a disturbing attempt to control and intimidate.

Cyberstalking is a form of domestic abuse that can have severe consequences on the lives of victims. It involves the use of technology to harass, intimidate, or control someone, often with the goal of damaging their reputation, relationships, or emotional well-being. No one should have to endure such an invasion of their privacy and dignity.

It is important to recognize that this incident is not an isolated case. Many individuals who have left abusive relationships continue to face harassment and manipulation through digital means. We urge communities to be vigilant, to recognize the signs of cyberstalking, and to support victims in seeking justice and protection.

We encourage anyone who is experiencing similar forms of harassment to reach out to us or another trusted organization. You do not have to go through this alone. Our center offers confidential support, resources, and guidance to help you navigate these challenging situations and regain control over your life.

To the community, we call for an end to spreading harmful and false information. Let us work together to create a safe and supportive environment where victims are believed, respected, and protected.

We stand with all those affected by these acts of abuse and urge law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this case and hold those responsible accountable.
