One of the most exciting things about being in high school is the football games and now some in Louisiana could be in jeopardy.

Yes, there’s a chance that some high school football games in our state could be canceled or re-scheduled for the 2024 season.

Growing up, there was no better feeling than watching football under the Friday night lights and as a student, there was nothing more exciting than football season.

For some young athletes and even cheerleaders or band members, this is what they’ve waited for and to know that high school football games could be in jeopardy is very discouraging.

So what could put high school football games in jeopardy this year? According to a report by KALB-TV , there is a shortage of high school football referees.

In the report, the shortage in officials can be attributed to several things, but one is that younger men and women are just not getting involved, thus creating a shortage when older officials elect to retire.

Another contributing factor for fewer high school football officials this year in Louisiana is the fact that people no longer want to have to deal with unruly parents and coaches. High school officials don’t make much money, thus why would they want to put themselves in front of those who are willing to ridicule them or even attack them at times?

With the shortage of officials, there is a real possibility that some games will be canceled this football season, or some games will be played on Thursday nights or Saturday mornings.

If you would like to become an official, and they need them, contact the Louisiana High School Association.
