Some residents in Central, Louisiana are cleaning up a mess and the mess was found in their mailboxes.

According to WBRZ, several residents have found dead fish and other food items in their mailboxes and now police are looking into what they are calling a “prank.”

The problem here is someone could get into serious trouble because a mailbox is federal property and tampering with a mailbox is a federal offense. The only person who can put anything in a mailbox is someone who is employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

WBRZ spoke to Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran and he said that residents in the Indian Mound subdivision have found things like dead fish,  soup, SpaghettiOs, Cheerios, and other gross things in their mailboxes.

As you may expect, when a mailperson opens a mailbox to deliver mail, they are shocked to see what has been put in the mailbox, and homeowners are disgusted by some of the things found too.

Police hope to find those responsible for this prank and they are asking the public to come forward with any information they may have in these cases.

Most people have important documents and bills sent to them every day, and if food is being placed in their mailboxes, it can make for a very unpleasant experience when opening their mail.

The Central Police Departmen t reminds residents with mailboxes that have been tampered with to not remove any items from their mailboxes prior to notifying authorities as photographs need to be taken for evidence.

The department also asks residents to check security cameras at their homes and to report or share any suspicious activity they may have on the recording device.

i hope they find out who did this and throw the book at.them. If it's kids doing this, the parents need to be fined and start paying attention to what your kids are doing.
