We’re learning more about the abduction of a child in St. Martinsville, Louisiana this week after police say the child’s mother was involved in the ambush.

A statewide missing child search was issued by the Louisiana State Police Wednesday morning after daycare workers saw someone take the child from its grandmother.

According to KLFY News 10 , the mother of the child, Meshaya Johnson, allegedly dressed in a disguise and took the 2-year-old after knocking its grandmother to the ground in the daycare parking lot.

Those working at the daycare witnessed Johnson approach the grandmother, knock her down, and then drive away with the child.

The mother of the toddler did not have legal custodial rights and after being dressed in disguise, authorities initially did not know who took the child.

St. Martinville Chief of Police Ricky Martin said authorities feared that this could have been a child trafficking case, but luckily it was not. With the assistance of the FBI, State Police, and local police, authorities were able to locate the child and the mom at a residence in Kenner, Louisiana.

The Chief said that agencies worked so well together to find this child and it was truly a team effort to bring this kid back home.

Chief Martin told KLFY News 10 that Johnson may face charges of aggravated kidnapping and simple battery.
