Lafayette Bridge Faces More Construction Time

Road construction and bridge construction along with repairs of any of these structures is a very costly venture for taxpayers, not to mention how time-consuming these projects can be, and it will take a little more time for a project on West Congress.

As drivers, we crave better roads, bridges, and structures, but we do like to mumble and complain while the projects are being repaired or constructed. It’s our nature as drivers, especially in Louisiana, where drivers can be quite unpredictable and dangerous.

Due to construction issues and delays along with weather delays, the project will take a little longer to complete.

What’s that old saying about Louisiana’s weather; “Don’t like Louisiana’s weather, give it fifteen minutes because it will change”, well that is certainly true in Acadiana.

While the process to get the bridge on West Congress near Rue de Belier is mostly on schedule, as does happen in road and bridge repairs, this project is going to take a bit longer to complete.

The bridge that was closed for repairs is in the 4800 block of West Congress Street which is about .2 miles west of Rue du Belier. The bridge closure began on June 12 and was projected to last for two and a half months.

Warren Abadie, Director of Traffic, Roads & Bridges for Lafayette Consolidated, says that after evaluation, while the project was expected to be completed at the end of August, it will take about another three or four weeks before it is completed. Drivers will need to continue to use the detour routes provided that include:

Eastbound traffic on West Congress has to detour to Le Violin Road to get to Dulles Drive and then to Rue Du Belier.
