    UPDATE:

Acadiana, you are amazing! After speaking with members of American Legion Post 69, they have received enough pledges and donations from you to cover the cost of the funeral expenses for Mr. Henry.

Once again, your generosity of spirit and caring hearts came through for someone in need in our community. Thank you for donating your hard-earned money!

    ORIGINAL:

Acadiana is known for wrapping their arms around those who are in need, and this time money is needed to help with burial expenses for a Korean War veteran from New Iberia.

While Joseph Henry does have a place of burial next to his wife who has already passed on, there are other costs associated with his burial that are needed.

Henry only has one surviving heir, his grandson. Henry died on August 5 at the age of 92.

The church will be donating its services free of charge , and the funeral home has given several discounts in the form of waiving some of the costs, but $5,300 is still needed to give Mr. Henry what he deserves, a respectful and worthy funeral for this man who served our country.

American Legion Post 69 in Lafayette is asking anyone who wishes to contribute to this effort can click on their link http://post-69-veterans-outreach.square.site/ .

You will be directed to Post 69’s web address where they take donations. All these donations will be used for Henry’s funeral. Once on the page, scroll down for the credit card option to donate.

Plain and simple, Henry had no means of burial and he did not have any life insurance policies.

The coordinators at American Legion Post 69 say they have the man’s DD-214 and the list from the funeral home of the costs that are still left to finish this process.

They are asking people to spread the word so that this matter can be taken care of a quickly as possible as there is always a timetable associated with something like this.

They also want you to know they appreciate you for spreading the word and also for those who have donated.

    They say,

For anyone wishing to help, you can make the check out to the funeral home and I will come pick it up, OR – businesses, if you want the tax deduction, we have a 501(c)3 so you can donate to that and we will get it all to the funeral home.
