Lafayette Police Department officials say the search continues for the person driving a vehicle early Sunday morning that crashed into a bicyclist and then fled the scene.

According to Sergeant Robin Green, spokeswoman for the police department, the whole situation began to unfold at around 1 o’clock in the 1600 block of Louisiana near Webb Street. The bicyclist was hit, and the person driving the car just kept on going.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is said to be in stable condition. Lafayette City Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux actually witnessed this whole situation play out.

He shared a picture of the situation on the street with friends on Facebook, and he begged someone to do the right thing by coming forward and letting the police know who was responsible for this crime.

Boudreaux says it was obvious that someone was speeding, and he believes they likely were driving at around 90 miles an hour in the area. Someone added in the “Comments” section that they believe people are in this area on a frequent schedule racing through the streets.

Here is a picture of the vehicle police officials say was involved in the hit-and-run:

Boudreaux wrote on his Facebook post,

If you were driving the white Camaor on LA AVE at the intersection of Webb Street adjacent to the golf course between 12:45am and 1:00am, I respectfully ask that you come in!!!

This is a man’s life. There is a camera right at point of incident. Don’t be pursued!!!

If you know anything about what happened, you are being asked to call the Lafayette Police Department at 337-291-8600, or if you prefer, you can call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS. You will remain anonymous when calling.
