A foundation has been created to help foster local artists’ love for music. The foundation will honor local musician Chris Stafford who died in a crash on Pinhook in May.

Stafford was a huge presence in the local music scene where he played with many bands and artists. He was a beloved musician who was known across the state of Louisiana. He is best known for being the co-founder of the band, Feu Follet . He was just 11 years old when he became part of this successful group. He led the Grammy-nominated band.

He loved music, and he loved to help foster the development of more music for our community. He had an open door for all of those who love music.

According to the people with the Christopher Stafford Memorial Foundation , the money donated through the Community Foundation of Acadiana will be used for the foundation to help local musicians. They say they have the following goals:

    • They will continue the operation of the Staffland Studio as an open resource for emerging musicians.
    • They will offer scholarships for music education
    • They will create a public memorial to sustain Chris’ memory

    Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet says,

Chris Stafford enriched our community with his extraordinary talent and dedication to the music we all cherish. As we honor his memory, the Christopher Stafford Foundation will be committed to nurturing our young, aspiring artists and preserving our vibrant culture. Together, we can ensure Chris’ passion continues to inspire future generations, keeping the rhythm of his legacy alive.

In his 36 years, Stafford’s impact was large on the local and regional music scene. In addition to being the frontman for Feu Follet, he wrote a plethora of songs and was integral in hundreds of local productions.
