Orlando’s beloved New York Bagel And Deli, a hotspot for anyone craving a taste of the Big Apple, has hit a snag. Known for its extensive menu that includes New York-style bagels, pizza, heroes, wraps, and more, the eatery recently faced a temporary shutdown following a state inspection.

If you’re wondering why this spot, with its 4.4-star rating, is in the news, here’s the scoop. On July 12, 2024, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted an inspection and flagged 12 violations at the restaurant. The issues ranged from basic to high-priority concerns.

Among the basic violations were the unfortunate findings of deceased roaches and food items like coffee lids stored improperly on the floor. More concerning were the high-priority violations, including improper sanitizer strength for washing, live roaches, and a stop-sale order for cold foods such as turkey, sausage, and cheese being kept at unsafe temperatures.

These violations led to a temporary closure of the Gateway Avenue location. But the story didn’t end there. After addressing some of these issues, a follow-up inspection on July 16, 2024, found ongoing problems, though none were deemed an immediate threat to public health. This allowed the restaurant to reopen its doors.

New York Bagel And Deli has been a go-to for many Orlando locals and visitors, offering a slice of New York’s culinary scene in Florida. With glowing reviews from regulars like Benjamin, who praised the place for its authentic bagels and welcoming staff, it’s clear this eatery holds a special place in many hearts.

As the restaurant works to resolve the remaining violations, fans can look forward to their favorite bagels and deli fare returning to full operation. Here’s hoping for a swift resolution so this New York gem can get back to serving up those iconic flavors.
