The Acolyte Bungles The Biggest Star Wars Reveal Ever
Towards the end of the first season, The Acolyte threw many big reveals at us, including the first onscreen appearance of Darth Plagueis. He appears only briefly and says nothing, simply spying on Osha and Qimir from afar. This is plainly meant to set up the next season of the show (assuming that Disney renews it, of course), but what we have seen so far makes one thing crystal clear: this show has bungled the first appearance of a Star Wars character fans have waited nearly two decades to see.
The Boys Prequel With Fan-Favorite Supe Confirmed
Just because Eric Kripke is tapping out following the upcoming fifth season of Prime Video’s The Boys, that in no way means he’s done with the universe. During the show’s panel on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video revealed that it has ordered a prequel series titled Vought Rising, which will follow the exploits of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront. While we don’t know much about the spin-off just yet, knowing that two of the most deplorable characters are taking front and center, we’re intrigued to see how this plays out.
The Action Horror Blockbuster On Peacock Everyone Must Watch
To a typical member of Gen Z or Generation Alpha, 1975’s Jaws seems like a rather banal movie, and many don’t know what makes the movie so great simply because they don’t understand its significance in the history of cinematography. But the truth is that Jaws is a super important movie and one that we highly recommend to anyone interested in the art of film and filmography.
I Am Legend 2 Reveals Alternate Cut Is Now Canon
There’s been a lot going on with the production of I Am Legend 2 since it was first announced to be happening back in March 2022. Two years later and, thanks to word from the movie’s writer and producer, Akiva Goldsman, things are moving along swimmingly, with the scribe telling the crowd at Collider’s Producers on Producing panel at SDCC, “There will be some good news shortly.” What’s even better for many of the diehard fans out there is that the original movie won’t be receiving the follow-up but instead, the next chapter will pick up following the alternative ending in which Will Smith’s Neville survives.
Deadpool & Wolverine Is A Surprising Celebration Of Pre-MCU Superhero Movies
Deadpool and Wolverine were heavily marketed as the official entry of Fox’s characters into the MCU, which is technically true, but that marketing is a bit misleading. In reality, the MCU barely matters to the heart of the movie. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised when the movie was much more focused on giving the pre-MCU Fox movies a fond farewell.
Transformers One Is The Movie Fans Have Wanted For Decades, See The Proof
The Transformers movie franchise has been lacking for a while now, but it looks like fans are finally going to get the Transformers movie we’ve been waiting for with Transformers One. At San Diego Comic-Con, stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and director Josh Cooley released a new trailer to give us our best look at the movie yet. The trailer also gave us a good look at Starscream, who was revealed to be voiced by Steve Buscemi.
Terminator Zero Netflix Poster Gets Us Even More Excited for Sci-Fi Franchise Rebirth
Terminator fans rejoice: Judgement Day draws near! In about a month, Netflix will launch the Terminator Zero animated series. The trailer for the series dropped less than two weeks ago, generating 1.4 million views and nearly 50 thousand likes on YouTube, signaling mass excitement from many fans. Now, less than two weeks after it released the trailer, Netflix revealed the poster for the series to maintain the hype—and it worked.
Netflix Marvel Movie From Legendary Director Deserves A Second Chance
When Spider-Man 3 first came out, fans generally agreed that it was terrible…a film with too many bad guys and too little plot, clearly an inferior sequel to the previous entry. Now, while the movie clearly pales in comparison to Spider-Man 2 (which is still in the running for best superhero film ever made), I’m here to drop a truth harder than Peter Parker’s dance moves: compared to the modern MCU, Spider-Man 3 is practically a masterpiece.
Actors Are Going On Strike Once Again
Last summer, SAG-AFTRA and WGA were able to get the studios to come to the table to negotiate, and now video game actors are going on strike. This strike comes after negotiations with major game publishing companies about how protection from AI fell through after over a year and a half of talking. The strike encompassed around 2,600 voice actors and motion capture performers under SAG-AFTRA’s Interactive Media Agreement.
The Most Misunderstood Sci-Fi Movie On Netflix
Be honest: Have you ever been in a job interview, and when asked what your biggest weakness is, you want to say, “I just work too hard?” It’s the kind of thing that makes an interviewer want to kill you, but in Hollywood, veteran director Paul Verhoeven can get away with such a wild claim. That’s because he worked incredibly hard to create the stone-faced satire that transformed Starship Troopers into history’s most misunderstood sci-fi movie, and it’s available to stream on Netflix for audiences who are finally ready to get the joke.
Star Wars Best Jedi Knew Exactly When He Would Die And How
I don’t harbor a lot of Star Wars fan theories, but there is one I’ve held onto since the early aughts. I believe that in The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn foresees his death at Darth Maul’s hands shortly before it happens, and I believe George Lucas meant for us to understand this.
R-Rated War Classic Leaving Netflix Will Break Your Heart
Oliver Stone has proven multiple times that he knows how to make a heart-breaking anti-war film that shows the cost of war on both sides. For his seminal 1989 epic Born on the Fourth of July, he takes a hyper-person, character-driven approach by focusing on the life of real Vietnam War veteran Ron Kovic. If you want to check out this heart-breaking classic for yourself, you have until July 31 to stream it on Netflix.
The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Wastes Its Coolest Invention
If someone held a DL-44 blaster to some Star Wars fans’ heads and asked them to say something nice about the Sequel Trilogy—well, a lot of those fans would get blasted like Greedo before they gave Disney their due. These films really did have a few great ideas, but they were just buried by a few metric tons of bantha poodoo. For example, the Knights of Ren are the coolest things in these movies, but they are wasted just to be fodder for flashbacks and Kylo Ren’s redemption arc.
Netflix R-Rated Crime Comedy Is A-List Directing Duo’s Most Overlooked Movie
The dynamic films the Coen brothers have given film audiences in the past four decades make the filmmakers industry icons in their own right. Armed with the uncanny ability to blend in multiple genres into a singular production, Joel and Ethan Coen’s creations can be equally hilarious and philosophical (The Big Lebowski), fantastic and dramatic (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), or neo-noir/gangster (Miller’s Crossing). One of the Coen brother’s most underrated productions is Burn After Reading, a 2008 black comedy that is now waiting for a new generation of fans on Netflix.
Mars Rover Finds Signs Of Ancient Life In Massive Discovery
NASA’s Perseverance rover on Mars has found a rock that may contain signs of ancient life. The rover picked up an arrow-shaped rock that contains chemical signatures and structures that indicate that it could have been formed by microbial life on ancient Mars. The instruments on the rover detected organic compounds and calcium sulfate, the former being a precursor to life and the latter being minerals that suggest water was available on Mars.
Forget Marvel, You Can Stream Most Of Scarlett Johansson’s Best Movies Without Disney+
Scarlett Johansson has been on the big screen and small for nearly three decades. In that time she’s been a critical part in some of Hollywood’s biggest and best movies. Scarlett Johansson made her movie debut in 1994’s North, playing the daughter of John Ritter and since that time Johansson has been a constant on the silver screen.
Netflix Violent Black Comedy Fantasy Series Will Make You Believe In Imaginary Friends
If you’re wondering what Christopher Meloni was up to while he was taking a break from portraying NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, then you might want to get your barf-bag ready because we need to talk about Happy! Though the short-lived SyFy series about a disgraced and drug-addicted police detective being followed by an imaginary blue unicorn only had a short two-season run, each episode is packed with so much profanity, violence, and graphic imagery that you’re going to want in on the action. You can binge-watch the entire series relatively quickly through Netflix if you want to believe in magic … or just watch a few heads get crushed in with a fire extinguisher.
Netflix ’80s Comedy Classic Gives Iconic Actor His Funniest Role
The late John Candy gave film audiences some of the most memorable comedic characters throughout the 1980s and 90s. Before his untimely death in 1994, the Canadian-born actor starred in the holiday favorite Planes, Trains, and Automobiles with Steve Martin, the Great Outdoors with Dan Aykroyd, and in the Mel Brooks sci-fi spoof Spaceballs, playing roles that would cement him in film history as one of the most legendary comedic showmen of his era. Fans of Candy can now tune into Netflix to see him in what many consider to be his most hilarious role, as the title character in the 1989 film Uncle Buck.
Netflix Sci-Fi Epic Franchise Needs Shorter Movies
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise currently encompasses two films which clock in at a combined total of 4 hours and 16 minutes of runtime. Despite their already tiring length, Netflix has announced plans to release even longer “Snyder cut” versions of both films on August 2. While this move may have been a successful change of pace for Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, it simply doesn’t make any sense to extend the runtime of these already exhausting Rebel Moon films.
Netflix Survival Horror Will Make You Never Want To Go Camping Again
Like camping? That’s great, but we’re about to fully ruin it for you by suggesting that for your next movie night, you head over to Netflix and check out the film Backcountry. Sure, there are plenty of reasons to not step outside of your house and go into the forest but a film about a man-eating black bear will surely take it the extra mile.
