Landmarks Illinois awards $30,000 in funding for preservation projects throughout state

Landmarks Illinois has awarded $30,000 in grants to eight historical preservation projects in Illinois through its Preservation Heritage Fund and Thomas E. Donnelley II Preservation Fund.

According to a statement from the non-profit, the selected preservation projects are located throughout Illinois in Chicago, Oak Park, El Paso, Jacksonville, Pittsfield, and Richmond. The funds will provide vital monetary support to important historical sites in the state threatened with demolition and deterioration.

Chicago’s historic Jackson Storage and Van Company Warehouse in the South Lawndale neighborhood has been awarded $5,000 grants by Landmarks Illinois. The money will be allocated towards restoring the warehouse and converting the space into a theatre and community hub complete with local businesses and art organizations.

The Living Sanctuary of Faith Church of God in Christ in Oak Park has received $5,000 in grants for masonry restoration. Built in 1903, the church is a part of the Frank Lloyd Wright-Prairie School of Architecture National Register and Local Historic Landmark District, according to Landmarks Illinois.

The Oak Park & River Forest Day Nursery has also received a grant of $3,500 to restore windows on the landmarked facility.
