    Investigations Underway After Multiple Bodies Found Across South Carolina

    Body Found in Wooded Area in Liberty:

    On Saturday, July 6, just after 10 a.m., deputies from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office discovered human remains in a heavily wooded area on the 100 block of Shivers Lane in Liberty.

    The body, found near the home of 34-year-old Justin Scott Gasper, who went missing earlier this year, appears to be that of an adult male. Gasper was last seen leaving his home on May 3 around 10 p.m. on foot.

    Authorities were alerted by land grading equipment operators who noticed the remains. While the incident remains under investigation, deputies have found no signs of foul play.

    The Pickens County Coroner's Office is working to identify the body.

    Body of Missing Man Found in Fire-Damaged Home in Richland County:

    Henry Haile, Jr., 63, who was last heard from in January, was found dead inside his fire-damaged home on Stanford Street, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD).

    Haile, known to live in the damaged house, hadn't been seen by neighbors since November 2023. His disappearance was reported after months of no contact.

    On Friday, June 28, a friend entered the home due to fire damage, searched around, and discovered Haile’s body. RCSD stated that Haile’s death does not appear suspicious at this time.

    The Richland Coroner’s Office is investigating along with deputies.

    Death Investigation Underway After Body Found in Downtown Greenville:

    Greenville Police are investigating after finding a dead body in downtown Greenville on Sunday morning, July 7.

    Officers were called to 241 North Main Street at around 7:40 a.m. following a report of an unconscious person. EMS arrived and declared the person dead at the scene.

    According to police, the individual appeared to have fallen from an unknown height in an area with several two and three-story businesses and apartments. Detectives and officers are currently investigating the incident.

    Body Found Following Residential Fire in Columbia:

    The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of an individual following a residential fire on Friday evening, July 5.

    The fire was reported at approximately 7:13 p.m. at a residence on the 500 block of John Nunn Highway in the Salley area. Law enforcement and fire department personnel responded promptly to the scene.

    After extinguishing the blaze, the body of a male was discovered inside the home. Due to extensive thermal injuries, the victim was not immediately identified. An autopsy will be conducted in Newberry to determine the cause of death and assist with positive identification.

    The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
