    Whipped Coffee (Dalgona Coffee) Recipe

    You probably have the ingredients lying around the house for this easy, creamy, whipped coffee recipe.

    Whipped Coffee, or Dalgona Coffee, went viral online a couple of years ago during the pandemic. The world shut down; people were craving their favorite crafted coffee beverages but couldn't get out of the house to get them.

    Whipped Coffee became all the rage.

    Unlike the sourdough bread trend (my sourdough starter is long gone), this trend stuck around. Whipped Coffee is easy enough to make on busy weekday mornings before you head out the door.

    It's also much cheaper but just as tasty as a drink you'd get from the coffee shop.

    How long has Dalgona Coffee been around?

    Dalgona Coffee, otherwise known as Whipped Coffee, may have become a trend in 2020, but the drink can be traced back to 1957 in Greece.

    Dalgona coffee went viral in South Korea at the beginning of 2020 and soon swept across the internet. Today, there are countless TikTok videos featuring the creamy beverage that gets poured over milk.

    This one, for example, has racked up over 3 million views.

    But enough with the history lesson, let's get on to how to make the drink. Trust me; it's easy and completely foolproof.

    Dalgona Coffee (Whipped Coffee) Recipe

    The recipes you can find online typically call for equal parts instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. Although the NYTimes states you can cut the sugar down if you don't want it as sweet.

    I followed one from the food blog, Taste of Home.

    Ingredients

    • 2 tablespoons instant coffee (like Nescafe)
    • 2 tablespoons sugar (brown or white is fine)
    • 2 tablespoons boiling water
    • 1 cup milk

    Directions

    1. Mix instant coffee, sugar, and boiling water in a bowl using a frother, hand mixer, or by hand with a whisk. (I used a frother. It only took a few minutes.) You will know it's done when it becomes lighter in color, thick, frothy, and begins forms peaks.
    2. Pour over a glass filled with milk and ice.
    3. Lightly stir.

    Miscellaneous notes

    • Not a fan of coffee? You can make a Matcha version of this. Get the recipe here.
    • If you prefer a hot drink, heat your milk and add to a cup. Then pour over the whipped topping, and stir.
    • Want it less sweet? You can cut down the sugar to 1/2 a tablespoon.
    • Adjust the taste to your liking. Use less milk for a stronger coffee flavor or more for a milder drink.
