NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a tribute to the Women’s Suffrage Movement, The Hermitage Hotel, an iconic Nashville landmark for over a century, has announced hosting a special “Yellow Rose Tea” event this August, according to a recent press release from the hotel.

The Hermitage Hotel, situated across from the State Capitol, was a pivotal site during the summer of 1920, where the decisive battle for women’s voting rights unfolded. Known as “The War of the Roses,” pro-suffrage supporters, adorned with yellow roses, clashed with anti-suffrage advocates, identified by red roses. This critical period culminated in Tennessee delivering the 36th state vote necessary to ratify the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote nationwide. [Source: Tennessee Museum]

Designated a National Historic Landmark for its significant role in the suffrage movement, The Hermitage Hotel now honors this legacy through the “Yellow Rose Tea” event. Guests will enjoy themed cocktails named after suffrage leaders such as Carrie Chapman Catt and Anne Dallas Dudley alongside a selection of tea sandwiches, including cucumber herbs and crème fraîche, vanilla orange buttermilk, and rosemary cheddar scones. According to the announcement, participants will also savor luxurious loose-leaf tea by In Pursuit of Tea and a glass of champagne while a pianist performs music from the 1920s. Upon departure, each guest will receive a commemorative keepsake menu and a yellow rose symbolizing the enduring impact of the suffrage movement.

Dee Patel, The Hermitage Hotel’s first female managing director, expressed enthusiasm about the event, highlighting its importance in celebrating and remembering the monumental achievements of the suffrage movement.

The “Yellow Rose Tea” event is scheduled for Friday, August 16, Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18, at 2:00 PM. Tickets are priced at $95 per person and $45 per child (10 and under), plus tax and an 18% gratuity. [Source: The Hermitage Hotel]
