After 4 Years, FL Is Getting A New Target In An Old Kmart. It's By A Publix, Bealls, & Five Below

Floridians know that the Sunshine State experiences nearly non-stop development, particularly for restaurants and retail businesses. Sometimes, developers find it more efficient to use an old, empty building and refurbish it rather than starting from the ground up. Residents in Bradenton will soon see this in an old Kmart that will soon be a Target.

And this isn't all that unusual. I've written about the possibility of a Home Depot going into an old Mandarin Kmart and an old Bed, Bath, and Beyond becoming an Amped Fitness in Tallahassee. And now, after four years, Bradenton will see this process happen with a Target store.

About The Target in Question: This store has been planned since 2020. Although it was originally slated to be 49,000 square feet, it will now be 76,000 square feet and will include a CVS pharmacy and wine store at Manatee Avenue West in Beachway Plaza. An opening date is scheduled for August 18, 2024.

About Beachway Plaza: The plaza itself will have the new Target and the discount retailer Five Below. The plaza is shadow anchored by a Publix, PetSmart, Beall's, and Staples.

Manatee County Target Stores: Bradenton already has a Target location at 14th Street West in Bayshore Gardens. It earns 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Most reviewers have nice things to say about this store. One example is Amanda who writes:

"I like the cleanliness of the store and how helpful and friendly the employees are."

However, a customer named Nancy had a different experience, writing, in part:

"...They didn't have any checkouts open, it was all self-checkout. I didn't have a problem with self-checkout until I saw 4 employees standing around talking about their social life. Not one said 'Thank you' or "Can I help you?' It all starts from management. You have raised your prices and lowered your standards."

There is reportedly a third Manatee County Target planned in the Marketplace at Heritage Harbour.

The author is not affiliated with Target or any other retailers.
