Crossing repairs close Grier Ave; will close Route 54

RYAN TOWNSHIP – If you’re heading to Delano via Barnesville, you’ll have to find a different route this week.

The Reading and Northern Railroad is working on the railroad crossing just north of the Barnesville Post Office and traffic is being detoured via Route 54 and Interstate 81.

This work and detour will last through the end of this week.

Beginning next week, the railroad will begin work on the crossing adjacent to the post office and the road will be closed and a detour will be in place as well.

Ryan Township Emergency Management Coordinator Matt Morgan said detour signage will be posted throughout the area.

He urged patience for traffic issues which may emerge, especially if tractor trailers fail to follow the signage.

“In the end we will have a smoother and safer set of crossings in this township which is something we can all get behind and be grateful for,” Morgan said.

Following the crossing replacements, PennDOT plans to resurface Route 54 from the Vulcan Hill past Sky-View in Hometown.
