Man accused of selling fentanyl in Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH – A West Cherry Street man is free on bail as he faces four felony charges after police say he sold fentanyl pills to a confidential informant twice.

Pedro Villot-Ortiz, 25, of 209 West Cherry Street, was charged Thursday by Shenandoah Borough Police Chief George Carado.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Carado, two controlled purchases of fentanyl were set up. Both were monitored by Carado and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Allentown field office and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

In both, a confidential informant met Villot-Ortiz in Shenandoah and exchanged fentanyl pills for cash, according to the complaint.

Carado said Friday that a search warrant was executed Thursday evening at Villot-Ortiz’s home on West Cherry Street.

Villot-Ortiz, the chief said, ran through his backyard, where he was caught and arrested.

He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison on $100,000 bail.

Bail was posted Friday through a bail bondsman from Reading.

A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 26.
