Wyoming’s top elected officials denounced political violence and offered their prayers following an assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

“President Trump, his family and the families of the victims of today’s shooting are in our prayers,” Gov. Mark Gordon said in a statement.

Trump’s campaign said the presumptive GOP nominee was doing “fine” after the shooting, according to the Associated Press , after a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear.

“We are thankful for the professional and quick response of the Secret Service,” Gordon wrote. “This is truly a sad day for our Republic, and should serve as a wake-up call for all Americans to express disagreement without resorting to violence.”

One rallygoer was killed while two others were critically injured, according to the AP .

“Today, we witnessed a horrifying assassination attempt on Pres. Trump,” U.S. Sen. Barrasso wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump endorsed Barrasso’s re-election bid in May.

“America is grateful for the quick action of the Secret Service & local law enforcement,” Barrasso wrote. “I’m praying for the victims & their families. Donald Trump is a warrior & won’t be intimidated by this cowardly attack.”

The suspected gunman, who the FBI has since been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper.

“I am horrified by the attempted assassination that took place at today’s Trump rally,” U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis said in an emailed statement. “I am relieved President Trump’s injuries are minor, but my heart breaks for the person who was killed and those who were injured. I am eternally grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement who acted quickly to neutralize the suspect and prevent greater tragedy. Political violence has no place in this country.”

U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman also took to X to ask Americans to “join me in praying for President Trump’s safety and recovery.”

“A deranged individual has shot the former and future President of the United States,” Hageman wrote.

“Never surrender,” Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray wrote on X. “I’m praying for President Trump and our entire country.”

In a joint statement , the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee confirmed the convention in Milwaukee slated for this coming week would proceed as planned.
