12 Ways Frugal People Keep Their Homes Sparkling Clean

Keeping your house clean is a constant task and sometimes, if I'm being honest, quite a struggle. Of course, you can throw money at the problem by hiring cleaners or spending a fortune on cleaning supplies and tools, but for those of us who are attempting a more frugal life, then we need some easy and frugal ways to keep our house clean.

As a busy, working mom of 3 who ALSO wants a clean house and wants to save money, here are some great tips that i use to help keep my house clean (or at least not super messy). I hope they work for you too!

    DIY Cleaners

You'd be surprised how much of your home can be sparkling clean with baking soda and vinegar! Mix them or use them separately instead of harsh chemical cleaners.

    Upcycle

You'll probably find a lot of things you want to toss. But you'll save money if you can breathe new life into something by finding another use for it!

    Use Old Rags

Paper towels can be expensive; find a t-shirt you never wear, cut it up, and use it for cleaning and dusting! Those old t-shirts that your kids just destroyed? The perfect cleaning tool!

    Try Lemons

Life is still giving you lemons? Make a cheap and plentiful smelling cleaner! Lemons are excellent for cleaning things like cutting boards and helping your home feel fresh!

    Avoid Costly Organizers

The best way to have a clean house is to keep it organized. However, expensive organization systems aren't always necessary; see if you can develop your system first. And you don't need those fancy containers- see if you can use things you already have in your house. Cardboard boxes make GREAT containers!

    Sell Unused Items

If you can't upcycle something but could still see someone using it, it's time to set up a garage sale and make some quick cash!

    Don't Splurge for Professional Cleaning

Professional cleaning could be worth it if you're behind and need help catching up. Otherwise, carve out some time over the weekend and take on the task yourself.

    Repurpose Cleaning Supplies

All-purpose cleaners will not work for every task, but it's ideal if you can use one cleaner for multiple tasks.

    Shop Smart

If you have to buy cleaning products or tools for your spring cleaning, shop for sales when you can and look for coupons to avoid spending the full price.

    Rearrange Furniture

Many people like spring cleaning because it gives them a fresh perspective on their homes. You can, too, rearrange your home; it doesn't cost a thing and will make it feel like new!

Save Jars and Other Containers for Storage

Organization is a big part of cleaning but often requires homeowners to find more storage. Get creative with your options by saving jars, boxes, and the like and using these instead of expensive options. For example, 0ld pasta jars (cleaned out) make great holders for pens and kitchen utensils!

    Stay Organized as You Clean

If you aren't careful, you might throw out sentimental or expensive things in a fit of cleaning inspiration. Don't get swept up in the cleaning and organization; be intentional.
