Jeremiah Smith is reportedly so fast that Ohio State Buckeyes coaches "don't know what to do with him"

According to THE Podcast Daily, five star freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith may very well be on his way to becoming the face of college football and he hasn't even stepped onto the field for his first real game yet. This may sound farfetched, but his legend has already begun to build this spring with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

For starters, Smith became the fastest true freshman to shed his black stripe in the history of the program's tradition, proving he was ready to compete right away. Then he spent all spring long embarrassing his defensive back teammates on the field, many of whom will be NFL Draft picks as soon as next year. And now he's apparently showing even greater athleticism and speed than Marvin Harrison Jr. did at his peak for Ohio State, and he's still just 18 years old.

    Jeremiah Smith's unreal speed

One of the best Ohio State shows, THE Podcast Daily, covered the latest chapter in the legend of Jeremiah Smith this week. One of the hosts, Jeremy Birmingham, shared that he "was told on Tuesday morning that [Jeremiah Smith] ran 23.18 miles per hour on the practice field...that's obscene at 6'4", 218 pounds as an 18-year-old." You can see quote (and more) in the video below.

One of the other hosts, Austin Ward, followed up by confirming that Jeremiah Smith's 23.18 miles per hour was "a full mile an hour faster than [Marvin Harrison Jr.] on that touchdown". The play he's referring to, of course, was Harrison Jr.'s long touchdown reception against Youngstown State that launched his hype train to new heights last fall.

Jeremy Birmingham or "Birm" as he goes by on the show continued by sharing that the coach(es) also stated:

"The only guy [the coaches] have ever seen like this is Percy Harvin. They don't know what to do with him."

Anyone garnering Percy Harvin comparisons before they've ever taken a college snap might seem silly, but at 6'4" 218 pounds Jeremiah Smith is somehow already just as fast (or faster) than one of the most electric players in the history of college football. The potential with Smith is simply unfathomable.

It's going to be difficult for Jeremiah Smith to live up to the otherworldly expectations already set for him by Ohio State fans and media around the country, but he might just do it. He was the number one overall player in the entire 2024 recruiting class for a reason. If he actually does somehow live up to the hype, Smith will almost certainly become the face of college football pretty quickly.
