When one of the greatest ever to do something retires it's hard to honor them in a way that truly rises to the level of their greatness. Nick Saban took an Alabama team that had just posted two losing seasons in a four-year span and led them to over 200 victories, eight College Football Playoff appearances, and six national championships in just 17 years.

How could Alabama ever properly commemorate or honor Nick Saban's legacy and greatness? There may never be enough that anyone could do to truly capture or convey the level of gratitude required for Saban's enduring excellence at the highest levels of college football. But today, The Crimson Tide honored Nick Saban in a way they've only ever done once in the history of college football. They added his name to the stadium.

The new name will now be "Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium" instead of just "Bryant-Denny" Stadium. The stadium was originally built and named after the university president in 1929, George H. Denny. But after the great Paul "Bear" Bryant" took the Tide to several championships it was renamed "Bryant-Denny" in 1975. It's remained that way for the last five decades, but now fittingly will gain a name to its field.

Nick Saban is the only FBS Division-I head football coach in college football history to win more than 80% of his games, take down six national championships, and defeat over 200 opponents. It likely stays that way until the end of time. Alabama Crimson Tide fans will forever be grateful to Nick Saban, the standard he set, and the legacy he left. And now they'll get to remember his name every single Saturday for the rest of history each time they step foot into Tuscaloosa's storied stadium.
