Georgia's WR with Megatron traits could be major key to success in 2024

Georgia Bulldogs' offense will look a lot different in 2024 with Carson Becks' top three targets in Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint on to bigger and better things at the next level.

So, the question remains: Who will emerge as Beck's go-to guy this fall?

No one on Georgia's roster can exactly replicate Bowers' freak athleticism or McConkey's insane footwork and Rosemy-Jacksaints' solid route running, but if there's one player who has what it takes to steal the spotlight and make the insane plays that this offense needs to win games, it's senior transfer wide receiver Colbie Young.

Young, who stands at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, was a spring ball standout and has only looked sharper through the first two weeks of fall training camp.

His style of play has drawn comparison to Calvin Johnson , aka "Megatron."

That's because Young's overall size mixed with his jumping ability and hand-eye coordination makes him a matchup nightmare anywhere on the field, especially in the red zone, much like Megatron was during his GA Tech days and in the NFL.

At Georgia's spring game back in April, Young hauled in just three passes for 27 yards, but he showed that he could catch anything thrown his way.

All three catches were impressive, however, it was his touchdown grab when he leaped in front of cornerback Julian Humphrey that really turned some head and gave off that "Megatron" feel.

With the recent dismissal of Rara Thomas , the Bulldogs' top receiver position is up for grabs.

Youngs massive size gives him the ability to be more than just a red-zone threat, which will give him a lot more opportunities for more targets and a reason why he could be favored over Dillon Bell.

On top of that, Young has also demonstrated that he's an asset on special teams.

Now if he can get a strong handle on the offense over these next few weeks, that X receiver starting job is all his, which will leave him to be a key reason the Bulldogs find success this fall.
