Dallas Cowboys go back to last year's strategy by pulling off a rare trade

The Dallas Cowboys are trading cornerback Nahshon Wright to the Minnesota Vikings.

It's a rare trade similar to one they pulled off last year with Kelvin Joseph and Noah Igbinoghene as they're getting another cornerback in return. In other words, they're swapping one player with a different one at the same position.

The man in question is Andrew Booth, who was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Booth played at Clemson in college.

Earlier in training camp, Wright was seeing a lot of playing time in practice with the first and second teams while Trevon Diggs continued his rehab to the side. Ironically, Wright received plenty of snaps while seemingly struggling in coverage.

With Dan Quinn out of the picture, the coach who ran Dallas' defense when Wright was drafted in 2021, it makes sense for Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer to get a guy he believes to be a better fit for his scheme.

Booth's career in the NFL got off to a slow start as he missed most of the year with a knee injury and played only 16 games. In 17 games played last season, Booth played in 13% of the defensive snaps while recording the highest snap count of his career. He's set to get a fresh start in Dallas.

For Wright, the same applies, as he'll go to Minnesota for a second chance of breaking through from the bottom of the depth chart into a more prominent gameday role.
