While it may be a bit inexperienced outside of the expected starter, the Ohio State Buckeyes have a deep and talented quarterback room entering the 2024 season.

Two freshmen, a junior, and a senior make up the quarterback room for the Buckeyes. One of those freshmen is Julian Sayin, who at first was not expected to be a part of the 2024 team . The Buckeyes landed Sayin in the transfer portal from Alabama after Nick Saban retired.

Sayin looks to be the No. 3 quarterback for the Buckeyes entering the 2024 season behind expected starter Will Howard and backup Devin Brown. Sayin has taken first-team reps and was competing for the job up until last week when Ryan Day narrowed it down to Howard and Brown.

Still, Sayin is impressing his teammates and coaches in a big way and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the field at some point in 2024. Whether it is due to an injury, or late-game opportunities in games that are already decided.

“He’s been unbelievable,” Day recently said of his freshman quarterback. “I mean, he has a good plan when he gets out there. Doesn't want to get his hand held. I've been impressed with his approach. And like I said before, he's got a really, really bright future. I mean, how fast he gets on the field will be just kind of up to him.”

Sayin has food out with his ability to process the game at a high level for a freshman. He looks like a guy that keeps the offense on pace and he has things under command. The former Elite 11 winner has upside with his arm talent that should have Buckeye fans excited.

Sayin very well could be the guy for the Buckeyes next year. The other freshman, Air Noland, and 2025 five-star recruit Tavien St. Clair could be the guys competing against Sayin next season. Howard will have moved on from his graduate season and it is yet to be seen what will happen with Brown .

The future is bright for the Buckeyes at quarterback due to their ability to recruit and land high-end talent at the position. Day’s comment on Sayin is a testament to that.
