Why the Las Vegas Raiders shouldn't trade for Haason Reddick with the large amount of cap space they have

The Las Vegas Raiders are heading into preseason Week 2, and there is still time to use their $32 million in cap space if they please do so. But, right now, it seems they are in no rush. With some recent NFL news, could that change, though?

On Monday, NFL reporters and insiders across the league reported that former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher, and now New York Jets edge rusher, Haason Reddick, wants to be traded from the Jets, the team that traded for him just a few months ago, before he even puts on their uniform.

The Jets traded for him knowing that he was going into a contract year, and have yet to be able to reach an agreement on a deal. So, Reddick has not been to training camp at all. This is sparking fan bases of every NFL team to ask themselves if their team should trade for one of the best edge rushers in the league.

And, to put it shortly, I'm here to tell you that not only should the Raiders not do the trade, or pursue one, but they won't do it.

Raiders won't and shouldn't trade for Haason Reddick

Let's start with the facts: Reddick is a soon-to-be 30-year-old pass rusher who wants a mega deal. Now, he still has some left in the tank, but not enough worth paying him what he wants, when you already have Maxx Crosby, who is even better than Reddick has ever been.

Let's also not forget how much potential Malcolm Koonce has shown as an edge rusher, and the Raiders have already talked about trying to get him extended after this season. he's on his rookie deal, and his next deal still won't be as bad a deal as what it would be to trade for Reddick, and then eventually have to give him a contract.

The next point: The Raiders just drafted Tyree Wilson, an edge rusher from Texas Tech. Bringing on Reddick, and having him and Koonce in from of Wilson will just hinder his development, and while Wilson is a raw prospect still, the potential is amazing.

And let's not forget, in order for a trade to happen, the Raiders would have to give something up. I'm not sure there is anything worth giving up for a guy who is holding out now for a team he has never played for. It's just all around a bad situation that the Raiders not only should stay away from, but I believe they will.
