The Ohio State Buckeyes could spend $8 million in NIL on their 2025 recruiting class

There's a ton of speculation about NIL, including what programs are spending and how they're spending it. Sometimes, it seems the money is made up, as replies to any post with NIL valuation can feature skeptics as to whether the amounts are too high or low.

On Thursday, On3's Pete Nakos pulled back the curtain about what top programs are allocating for their 2025 recruiting classes. He's heard that schools like Ohio State, Miami, Texas, Oregon, and Tennessee are allocating in the $6-8 million range just for their 2025 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes, coming off a remarkable offseason of acquiring impact transfers from the portal, are likely on the high end of that. THE Foundation and 1870 Society Collectives are amongst the two most powerful groups in college football.

The wave of summer commitments has begun to taper off, and although the Buckeyes have experienced a mix of recruitment outcomes in the last six weeks, their successes have outweighed their misses. Ohio State is currently leading the nation with the top-rated recruiting class, accumulating 310.02 points on 247Sports' national rankings, surpassing Alabama by almost 20 points.

With a significant portion of the recruiting efforts already behind them, there’s still room for improvement on the recruiting trail. These efforts could potentially boost their score even higher, possibly securing the No. 1 spot in the overall recruiting class rankings.

To provide some perspective, Georgia clinched the top spot in the 2024 cycle with a total of 317.23 points, just ahead of Alabama, who had 310.74 points. Securing Ohio State's primary remaining recruit, five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr., could bring the Buckeyes' team points up to 316.32, closely challenging Georgia's score from the previous year.

Despite this, Ryan Day and the Ohio State football coaching team remain committed to enhancing their team’s lineup, regardless of the rankings.

Here's some information on the collectives mentioned above:

" THE Foundation was founded to help community charities and raise awareness for them using Ohio State football and men’s basketball players name, image, and likeness as “brand ambassadors.”

The 1870 Society , in part, has this mission: "Our mission is simple: to give Buckeye Nation unprecedented, exclusive access to their favorite teams while creating the kind of earning potential and opportunities that Ohio State athletes deserve and have earned."
