With each day that passes, roster cuts are drawing closer and closer for the New England Patriots.

The team has to decide on 53 players to kick off the regular season from the 90 that they have during training camp.

So now that the second preseason game is over, A to Z Sports is releasing three players that may have saved their job and three players that may have lost their job following their performance.

    Let's start with the positives:

    1. WR David Wallis

The Patriots have now played in two preseason games, and in both, David Wallis has had an impressive punt return.

In the first game, he took it for 23 yards and put the team in perfect position to get the lone touchdown against the Panthers.

And then on Thursday night, Wallis returned a kickoff 53-yards in the fourth quarter.

Wallis has been a bubble player throughout training camp because he's in a very crowded and competitive receiver room. But his contributions on special teams could be the deciding factor on earning a roster spot.

    2. LB Raekwon McMillan

Veteran linebackers Ja'Whaun Bentley and Jahlani Tavai did not play in the second preseason game, so that meant an increased number of snaps for Raekwon McMillan.

And he took advantage of each and every one.

McMillan led the Patriots with nine total tackles and five solo tackles. And it just added to his i mpressive performance during joint practice a few days earlier.

He came out with a purpose and played with a lot of physicality. But that's exactly what he needed to do after his rocky start in the NFL.

McMillan has missed the two of the last three seasons since being selected in the second round of the 2017 draft due to knee injuries. So he needed to prove that these injuries haven't slowed him down.

    3. K Joey Slye

A 51-yard and a 45-yard field goal is not bad for one night. And that was all thanks to the veteran kicker who the Patriots brought in after Chad Ryland's struggles last season.

The two have been competing all throughout training camp, but in the past two weeks, Slye has taken the lead based on what we are seeing.

He is getting additional opportunities during training camp, and then during the past two games, the coaching staff has turned to Slye for all the field goal attempts. That has left Ryland with the extra points.

But he is proving that in games, he is reliable and because of that, he has a better chance of getting the job at this moment.
